Replacing a Lost License

If you have misplaced your license, or if it is too damaged or worn, the Colorado DMV makes it fairly easy to get your hands on a duplicate, although recent statutes restrict the issuance of duplicate licenses in certain situations.

To obtain a new license you must appear in person at your local driver license office. Be sure to bring one form of identification and the ability to pay a $21 reissue fee.

Out-of-State Reissue

If you lose your license while out of state or even out of the country the DMV makes it easy to replace. All you've got to do is complete a lost license application, making sure to include your out-of-state address, and mail it along with a check for $21 to:

• Division of Motor Vehicles

• Colorado Department of Revenue

• Driver Control Section, Room 164

• Denver, Colorado 80261-0016

It will take about 20 days to process your application. If you need it faster have a friend or family member drop off your application in person at the main DMV office at 1881 Pierce Street in Lakewood (and yes, the DMV does allow this). Your friend or relative can then send your duplicate license via express mail.
